Schools and Colleges – emergency hire for summer works programmes

When schools, colleges and university students break up and head home for the holidays, it’s often time for the Estates team to oversee a summer works programme while classrooms are empty. There are usually plans to refresh, repaint, refurbish and remodel classrooms, laboratories, study spaces, catering facilities, external grounds and more. With a 6-week window when staff and students aren’t milling about means contractors can move around a site without affecting day to day teaching routines. Most summer maintenance and refurbishment works programmes are planned well in advance but there are often situations where equipment and services are needed at short notice, either in an emergency or to deal with the unexpected.

The CITB publishes guidance for contractors which covers good practice and to ensure all workers and site visitors are safe.

Summer Emergency Hire Solutions

Here’s some of the hire solutions we’re providing to sites across the country this summer:

  • Temporary storage solutions
Need temporary storage for furniture or equipment such as books, desks, filing cabinets, IT equipment, gym equipment, white goods or science equipment?
  • Preparation and Cleaning
Looking to deep clean accommodation, staff rooms or resurface floors?
  • Perimeter fencing hire
Need to secure site boundaries or fence off specific areas?
Need to create new safe access routes on site for students coming in for exam results?
Adequate temporary hoarding or fencing will minimise the risk of unauthorised people gaining access to site or equipment while works are in progress.
  • Skip hire
We can provide skips of any size to suit your needs.
  • Drone hire
Need to check the condition of a roof or quickly check difficult to reach areas? We can arrange drone hire across the UK.

We’re helping out at a Manchester school this summer on a very special project – keep an eye out for our post about that in the autumn!
